Komen developed I AM THE CURE.™ to educate everyone touched by the Komen Race Series about the importance of a positive breast health program and to empower people to take charge of their own breast health. The goal of the I AM THE CURE.™ initiative is to teach people that: ˇ The greatest risk factors for breast cancer are being female and growing older ˇ Breast cancer knows no boundary - be it age, gender, socioeconomic status or geographic location ˇ The key to survival is early detection ˇ One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime ˇ Three simple steps for early detection are regular mammograms, clinical exams and breast self-exams ˇ It is important to make healthy lifestyle choices (i.e., proper diet, exercise and not smoking) ˇ Breast cancer affects more than just the patient — friends and family need support, too Watch for our Cure leaders the day of the Race and join them in yelling our following chants in our efforts to educate everyone the day of the Race: ˇ See your doctor, learn your risk! I AM THE CURE.™!
ˇ Get mammograms and breast exams! I AM THE CURE.™!
ˇ Notice changes to your breasts! I AM THE CURE.™!
ˇ Start the fight by living right! I AM THE CURE.™!
